Earth Day

On April 22nd of each year countries around the world celebrate Earth Day! This is a day to show our appreciation for our lovely Earth. The celebration of Earth Day dates back to the 1970’s. In 1970, the senator of Wisconsin, Gaylord Nelson, held a national event in hopes to raise awareness around environmental issues such as factory waste disposal and air quality regulations. The Environment Protection Agency states that over 20 million Americans participated and celebrated in the first Earth Day. Americans were the first ones to put effort into Earth Day but now Earth Day is celebrated and honored by countries around the world. In recent times more than one billion people around the world participate in the Earth Day celebration. There are many things you can do to celebrate Earth Day. Here are some ideas you can do to celebrate Earth Day this year! 

 

  • Plant a garden 
  • Ride your bike 
  • Spread awareness about environmental issues 
  • Start conserving your water usage 
  • Use reusable bags
  • Invest in a reusable water bottle 
  • Buy produce from a local farmer’s market
  • Recycle as much as you can 
  • Spend time outside 
  • Clean up plastic in your community
