The Battle Against Runx1

On Thursday and Friday of this week, the Arlington girls and boys basketball teams are dedicating their games to the Anderson family. Nate, Griffon, and Brennan Anderson all have been diagnosed with the extremely rare blood disorder known as Runx1.

Runx1 has only occurred in one other family around the world, so there are many questionable factors when it comes to this disorder. It is hereditary, so Mr. Nate Anderson and his two sons, Griffon and Brennan, all have it. The disorder has a high predisposition to pre-leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia. Three of the boys, soon to be four, attend Arlington High School and Joy Anderson is the assistant girls’ high track coach. The Andersons are fighters, and the town wants them to know that we have their backs.

Join us this Thursday and Friday as the two teams dedicate their games to the family. It is encouraged to wear orange to show your appreciation and if desired, you can also purchase a $3 bracelet from junior Hailey Essinger. All earnings go towards research for Runx1. The girls’ varsity game begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday and the boys’ junior varsity game begins at 6 p.m on Friday in the new gym with the varsity following afterwards.

The Anderson’s have gained love and appreciation from the town over the last few years. Their battle with the disorder is nothing we could ever comprehend, but we want to help in any way. We hope to see you attending and wearing your orange!
