Coming off last year's 5-15 record, the Lady Devils fastpitch team has adopted the motto: ‘Are you greater than five? (R U > 5?!) to win more than 5 games.
Entering her third year as head coach, Mackenzie Heacock looks to fill infield positions left open by graduating seniors: “We are losing our starting pitcher (Madi Russell) and our starting catcher (Ashlyn Pryor) and I’m looking forward to people stepping up for the team to help out in these big areas. Adria (2nd Base) needs to be filled as well. I’m excited with what I have seen the first few weeks of practice in filling these positions.”
The team also filled several new coaching positions including new assistant coach Travis Simons and volunteer coaches Tom Marquart. Coach Jeremy Woodard returns for his 3rd season.
Although the roster only holds 10 girls, they have several returning lettermen including senior Leah Durliat who will lead the team on the mound and the infield. Senior Nay Auelua will be our main leader in the outfield, and take on a new role as catcher as needed, and Senior Annabelle Nigh is a positive leader looking to drive in runs this season. Returning Juniors Hailey Siferd and Averi Patterson are also looking to contribute.
New Assistant coach, Travis Simons will also be an asset to this year’s team. Previously an assistant under Coach Feller for several years, he recorded an undefeated 11-0 JV season and the varsity won back-to-back BVC Championships. He spent 3 seasons coaching for a team up north and has coached many travel and rec league teams winning championships at various levels. Coach Travis hopes to help Coach Mack re-establish Lady Devil Softball by teaching competitive softball fundamentals with a positive mindset encouraging them to rise to the challenge R U > 5?!
