'23 Choir Seniors!

With their last AHS choir performance being this Friday, we wanted to take some time to get to know our six amazing choir seniors! Thank you for your dedication and perseverance over the years, and especially this year!

How many years have you been in choir/Select Ensemble? What are some other opportunities you’ve taken because of choir?

I've been in choir all 4 years and Select Ensemble 1 year. I have participated in Solo and Ensemble numerous years and have been a part of the All-County Choir for 2 years as well. I’ve also played Mayzie in Seussical Jr.

Why did you choose to join choir?

I joined choir because my mom told me I had to choose between choir and band and I thought I would look like a nerd if I joined band haha. I’ve always loved to sing since I was little and am so so happy I joined choir! It has been a super fun part of my high school experience!

What are some of your favorite songs you’ve ever sang in choir (concert choir, Select, All-County, etc.)? 

My favorite song from All-County is no doubt “The Awakening,” Madi, Emma, and I continue to sing it to this day. And another song I loved to sing that we have gotten to sing all for years of high school is “Evening,” it’s so pretty. 

What is your favorite choir memory? 

Getting a superior rating at state Junior year, everyone was so excited and I rode the bus with Emily Durliat on the way home and we were singing our hearts out.

What's your favorite song in Arts Fest this year?

“Honey, Honey”

Why should people take choir? What advice do you have for new people?

Take choir even if you only like singing a little bit. It’s a great way to make new friends and it is super fun every day! It’s so nice to have a fun stress-free period in the mid

What will you miss most about being a member of the AHS choir?

I will definitely miss arts fest the most, it’s so fun being able to sing fun songs everyone knows and dance on stage! I always loved the day that Mrs. Griffin would announce what we would be doing for arts fest and everyone would get so excited!

Emma Rossman

How many years have you been in choir/Select Ensemble? What are some other opportunities you’ve taken because of choir?

I’ve been in choir all four years and Select for three years. I did All-County three times and Solo & Ensemble every year. I was in Frozen Jr. freshman year and was a Gird Birl in Seussical Jr. last year. I’ve choreographed stuff for Arts Fest and both musicals w/ my partners in crime Ktoss and Madi! 

Why did you choose to join choir?

I was excited to perform at Arts Fest and I knew my brother really liked choir! 

What are some of your favorite songs you’ve ever sang in choir (concert choir, Select, All-County, etc.)?

Toooo many to say. Last year at All-County I loved “Baba Yetu” and I really liked “Shine On Me” in Select this year too! 

What is your favorite choir memory?

The bus ride home after we won at state last year! 

What’s your favorite song in Arts Fest this year?

“Take a Chance On Me!”

Why should people take choir? What advice do you have for new people?

Choir is such a fun time and if you really enjoy singing and making music then totally join! One piece of advice I have is to get involved!! All-County is SO much fun and you get to meet some great people through it.

What will you miss most about being a member of the AHS choir?

I’m going to miss singing new songs and learning new alto parts with Below and Madi every quarter :(

Madi Russell

How many years have you been in choir/Select Ensemble? What are some other opportunities you’ve taken because of choir?

This is my 4th year in choir and 3rd year in select. I participated in All County for the last 2 years and I’ve done solo and ensemble every year. I was in Seussical Jr. last year and I have gotten to choreograph Mamma Mia with Emma this year. 

Why did you choose to join choir?

I love to sing, my friends were in it, and I’ve heard that it was a good time.

What are some of your favorite songs you’ve ever sang in choir (concert choir, Select, All-County, etc.)?

My absolute favorite songs are “The Awakening” from All-County last year and “Evening”, but I have loved almost all of the songs we have sung in the past few years. 

What is your favorite choir memory?

Winning state last year was so much fun. It was really stressful to learn Arts Fest and state music at the same time, but everyone was so hype to see that our hard work finally paid off. We just all had a great time together and obviously jammed on the bus ride home. 

What's your favorite song in Arts Fest this year?

“Mamma Mia!”

Why should people take choir? What advice do you have for new people?

It is a lot of fun and a chance to become friends with people you would never expect. 

What will you miss most about being a member of the AHS choir?

I will miss all of my friends and learning new songs with them.

How many years have you been in choir/Select Ensemble? What are some other opportunities you’ve taken because of choir?

I was in choir for 3 years, Select for 1 year, and did Solo & Ensemble once.

Why did you choose to join choir?

I love to sing and make memories with friends

Why should people take choir? What advice do you have for new people?

Choir is an amazing opportunity to create memories with friends. Don’t be afraid to sing out!

How many years have you been in choir/Select Ensemble? What are some other opportunities you’ve taken because of choir?

This is my second year of choir. I’ve participated in Select for two years and I was a member of the D-3 Honors Choir last year. I’ve also been caroling with the choir the past two years!

Why did you choose to join choir?

I joined choir because Madi Russell nagged me for a solid year and I finally caved. It was maybe the best decision I made in high school:)

What are some of your favorite songs you’ve ever sang in choir (concert choir, Select, All-County, etc.)?

I LOVED singing “Evening” and “Autumn Vesper” last year. I also really liked singing “Hopelessly Devoted To You” at Arts Fest last year.

What is your favorite choir memory?

My favorite memory is participating in the D-3 Honors Choir and meeting so many nice people.

What's your favorite song in Arts Fest this year?

My favorite song is Waterloo!

Why should people take choir? What advice do you have for new people?

Choir teaches you to be more outgoing and lets you meet new people that aren’t in your grade! Try new things, it’s ok to be different:)

What will you miss most about being a member of the AHS choir?

I’ll miss the music! It’s a class without stress in my school day that I’ll miss during college.

How many years have you been in choir/Select Ensemble? What are some other opportunities you’ve taken because of choir?

1 Year. Choir encouraged me to sing more through my daily life.

Why did you choose to join choir?

I enjoy singing with my friends .

Why should people take choir? What advice do you have for new people?

Choir is a great way to break up your school day. The more confident you are the better you will sound.

What will you miss most about being a member of the AHS choir?

Singing and having fun with my friends.
